Back by popular demand!
Burlington Taiko Group and its Sensei Stuart Paton, conduct 50-75 school performances and residencies annually, providing approximately 5,000 students a year first-hand knowledge of the excitement and power of playing taiko. The purpose of their work in schools is to allow children in North America to further their appreciation for diverse cultures, and to see first hand role models of adults expressing powerful, even fierce, creative energy in avenues that benefit the community. The rhythms, the dancing, and the brilliant colors are all especially engaging and compelling for children and young adults.
We have invited Stuart Paton to return to our region to offer assemblies and accompanying workshops designed for students, educators, musicians, dancers and the general public, with possible topics including Taiko drumming and Japanese music, dancing & culture.
This residency is appropriate for schools seeking world music and other diverse programming, as well as for schools seeking to offer dance and music opportunities appropriate for all of their students. Schools will be provided with study guides including information on taiko drumming, Japanese history and culture, and questions for pre- and post-show discussion. Stuart is also available for college classes (music and music education as well as world culture), for pre-school visits, and for activities at schools serving students with learning differences.
Program Options Include school assemblies, hands-on Taiko workshops, Tanko Bushi Folk Dance workshops, band workshops, after-school and family programs, teacher workshops, community workshops and solo performances.
