Shamou, originally hailing from Iran, brings Middle Eastern percussion and dance into our schools and communities. He has been a lead singer and percussionist for many award-winning world music ensembles. He shares a message of international connections and shared cross-cultural influences.

Shamou offers musical performance assemblies for all ages as well as percussion and dance workshops. During his residency, he will also offer three public performances. We anticipate a solo evening performance on 11/7 (in the Great North Woods) and he will repeat his solo performance 11/14 at the Franconia Town Hall. For the final performance on 11/22, Shamou will be accompanied by his world music ensemble, Loopin', at Kennett High School in Conway.

This residency explores cross cultural connections and is appropriate for schools seeking diverse programming and Middle Eastern or other world cultural experiences. Percussion workshops are appropriate for musicians and non-musicians alike, and dance workshops can be customized to your group. Schools will be provided with study guides with information on Middle Eastern cultures, vocabulary terms, and questions for pre- and post-show discussion.

Possible Workshops Include:

1. Percussion Workshops (Gr. 3 & up)

2. Dance Workshops (customized to any age)
